We have started again

The academic year has already started. Our team has also already completed its first training meeting (AOV). Empathetic French

Are you still looking for training to establish contact in French in a respectful and professional manner, both within the assistance and care relationship and outside of it? Our colleague Sofie Van Pelt organizes an 'Empathetic French' training from the Inclusive Society expertise center. During the training (6 sessions of 3 hours) you will practice conversation skills and conversation techniques in French based on non-violent communication, solution-oriented communication, active listening and connecting communication. There are still places available! If you are interested, be sure to take a look at: Empathetic French for aid and service providers | UCLL Research & Expertise.

BEN box

Ann Ceurvels and Tania Poppe developed a method to look at human behavior in a different way. They wrote the book Ben Ik Wel Normal? together. They are currently working on a toolbox that they will use during their guidance, in groups and individually. In her practice, Ann mainly works with families and children and in a development-oriented manner. This makes her completely in line with our training. On Sunday, August 27, An Beghin and Jorinde Dewaelheyns took part in a try-out of the BEN box. It looked promising and they would like to further support its development with our students, within Casuistics, within the BAP. Or perhaps we will embark on a long-term process together with a research cell.

Bachelor projects in start-up

The academic year has only just started and we are flying into it again with the BAP team. The students are busy choosing a theme for their bachelor's project. You will find all possible themes from which they can choose on this page. In consultation with their internship location, students can specify different preferences for a theme until October 1. We then work as a BAP team to assign each student a research project. Exciting!

Stage BP III

These weeks, 204 students will enter the work field for their final SRW internship. They can work in very varied sectors. Thank you in advance to all the internship mentors who will teach the students the tricks of the trade. On 6/9 we had an information session about BPIII and BAP. Were you unable to attend but are you interested in watching the recording? You can request this from An Beghin, an.beghin@ucll.be.

Debate lunch COJ Flemish Brabant

on October 5, 2023

from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in the Corso hall. Welcome to Campus Corso

We provide soup from Molenmoes with board.

Contribution: 7 euros

TITLE:

“Hey, I want to be on TikTok too - like the rest of the class.”

'social media (use) in youth care facilities'

During this debate lunch, led by Davy Nijs (Mediawijs), we will reflect on the 'right' to access and use the internet among children and young people in the living group. What challenges do social media pose to us in youth care?

Mediawijs is the Flemish Knowledge Center for Digital and Media Literacy of the Flemish government. To introduce the theme, Davy Nijs discusses some points of interest surrounding the use of social media in youth care facilities and also proposes Media wise materials. The following points will certainly be discussed:

Why is thinking about digitalization an assignment for youth care organizations in 2023? Why do you young people want to be on TikTok? "When are children and young people allowed to use the internet?" : is that the right question? What does media education mean in the living group? What can a youth care worker and his organization do about digital exclusion? Making a policy is key...

Davy Nijs has been involved in the theme of digitalization in the social work field for many years. Since September, he has been bringing his expertise to the Mediawijs team, thereby providing even more targeted support to the social work field (including youth care). Davy supports parents and other educators with media education from Digisaurus. He also guides social organizations on digital challenges.

Afterwards we want to work on the following statements that you can certainly think about

If a young person and his family do not have sufficient resources to purchase a smartphone/laptop/tablet, he/she will not have one. Our children and young people in Youth Care are best as anonymous/invisible as possible on social media. In youth care we stand for growing up promisingly and that by definition also means growing up digitally promising, so this also defines my role as a supervisor

News from Professional in the Making (PIW)

Student Omara Vanhoof wrote a review of a book she had read during her holiday, completely voluntarily based on intrinsic motivation. You can read it via this link:

Maybe you should aim a little lower – Milio van de Kamp (by Omara Vanhoof) – Tea, Talks and Literature (wordpress.com)

In any case, we already felt like reading the book. Maybe you too?
